I believe how we talk to each other matters. Too often, conversations—especially in politics—are filled with criticism and negativity. As someone who closely follows U.S. politics and global affairs, I see this all the time. The media, candidates, and pundits seem more focused on tearing each other down than on real ideas and solutions.
I know you see it too. It feels like attacking others—rather than debating their ideas—has become a sport. Words that once would have been considered unacceptable have become normal. And this has given people everywhere permission to spread hate, prejudice, racism, and sexism.
You don’t have to look far to see it—on the news, social media, or in everyday conversations. It feels like we’re in a blizzard of negativity, but I truly believe it doesn’t have to be this way.
As a follower of Jesus Christ, I know there’s a simple solution: Love your neighbor.
Jesus said it best when he was asked which commandment in the law is the greatest?
Jesus answered by defining the two great commandments:
“Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” Matthew 22: 37-39 KJV
As a researcher, I wanted to know which major world religions advocate for kindness and caring for one’s neighbor. I can report that all major world religions espouse kindness to others.
Does the admonition to treat one another with love and kindness matter in a world that becomes less and less religious every year? I think it does. I think it matters because love and kindness work!
Love and kindness make us better people. They strengthen families, build stronger communities, and even make the world better. They are the sunshine that can melt away the coldness of hate—even in something as intense as this election year.
Who Am I?
I’m a wife, a mother of 8 amazing children (yes, all biological!), and the proud nana of 11 wonderful grandchildren. Family is everything to me, and I’m passionate about what makes families strong—things like love and kindness. I have a love for learning and languages. I speak French, studied Russian in college, and am currently working on Spanish fluency.
Recently, I earned a master’s degree in international business management. My current project is researching resilience and post-traumatic growth. These subjects fascinate me and have deepened my appreciation for the power of loving one for another.
My Mission
As a follower of Jesus Christ, I strive every day to be more like Him. This website and the products I create are my small way of sharing more love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, and goodness (Galatians 5:22) with the world. My goal is to remind people that love and kindness are always better for us—and for the world—than hate and judgment.
With the Positive.Today messages on yard signs, t-shirts, and other offerings, I hope to bring a smile to someone who is burdened, or hope to someone who wonders if their life matters. I want each person to know that they their uniqueness is a gift to the world and they are loved and appreciated by their fellow travelers on this journey of life.
I Challenge You!
Will you please help me share this message with the world? I warmly invite you—no, I challenge you—to place a Positively Inspirational Yard Sign in your yard or around your community before the election. Wear a Positively T-shirt when you go grocery shopping. Or outfit your entire family in various Positively T-shirts when you are at soccer game or out for dinner.
Together let’s spread a hope, kindness, love, and encouragement throughout our country and (I hope!) throughout our world.
